Happy Earth Day! Since our founding in 2020, we've set goals on Earth Day each year for how we can become a more sustainable company. We started with baby steps: upgrading our mailers to biodegradable ones, eliminating single-use plastic hangtags, and reusing cardboard shipping boxes. We've also shifted our focus to sourcing ethical and sustainable brands and products made in the US. One of our favorite clothing brands, No Less Than, is a made-to-order slow fashion label that uses deadstock fabric whenever possible, produces most of their garments in downtown Los Angeles, and pays all its employees a fair wage. One hundred percent of our jewelry is made in America by female makers and this past year we introduced hair accessories made of 100% cellulose acetate, a plant-based biodegradable plastic.
In 2023, we're continuing on that journey and hoping to make even bigger strides. We're thrilled to bring sustainable Canadian label Poeme into the shop later this spring and continuing to seek out like-minded brands. This year, we're also planning on hosting local clothing swaps to give unused items new life and keep them out of landfills. We're also working on adding a resale program to our site where our customers can buy and sell pre-loved Dottir items.
As a fashion company, it's challenging to strike the balance between consumerism and sustainability but we're going to continue to try, just as we have for the past 3 years.
